One of the most important uses of our new Developer API is enabling enhanced oversight of vendor risk management activities through seamless synchronization between the 6clicks platform and external systems and tools. Today, I am here to discuss in depth this capability and the process that goes into vendor risk management using the Developer API. Continue reading to learn more!

How does the 6clicks Developer API work?

The Developer API allows users to seamlessly integrate the 6clicks platform with other technologies and applications, empowering organizations to fully embed their cyber GRC program into their technology ecosystem and automate various processes using other tools and software. From the 6clicks dashboard, users can access the Developer API to create API keys and utilize our comprehensive list of API calls. To learn more about how the 6clicks Developer API works, here is an overview of its components.

Steps for integrating an ERP system with 6clicks

For this article, we will be focusing on providing an end-to-end solution for integrating an ERP (enterprise resource planning) system with the 6clicks platform using the Developer API. To guide you through this process, follow these steps:

1. Create a new third party: After creating a record for a new vendor in your ERP system, use the Developer API to kick off vendor onboarding within the 6clicks platform. From the Developer API page, navigate to the API documentation tab. Under Third Parties, you can use the POST API call to create a corresponding third-party record within the Third Parties module based on the existing record in your ERP system. You can then link risks to the new third party, assign a risk rating, and include additional information to implement vendor risk management.

2. Conduct vendor assessment: When onboarding a new vendor, conducting vendor assessment is necessary to ensure that they meet the necessary security and regulatory requirements of your organization. Taking the new third-party record you created, you can then initiate an assessment within the 6clicks platform and use another POST API call to automatically send assessment invitations to relevant respondents, which include your vendors, employees, and other key stakeholders.

3. Review vendor compliance: Respondents will be able to access and fill out the assessment within the 6clicks platform and your organization can then review the responses and documents provided to determine the compliance status of your vendor. Depending on the results, you can then set the vendor assessment status to ‘Completed’ or create a new issue record to remediate issues associated with the vendor, all within the 6clicks platform. Meanwhile, you can update the vendor record in your ERP system to ensure that data is aligned across your organization's platforms.

In essence, the Developer API provides your organization with an automated workflow to efficiently manage vendor risks and enables the smooth exchange of data between 6clicks and your ERP system to align vendor risk management activities with core business functions.
