Leverage enhanced data access via the new Power BI connector

Written by Greg Rudakov | Jul 16, 2024

Hello everyone, Greg here, and today I'm excited to share with you the latest updates to 6clicks’ integration with Power BI. We've recently upgraded our Power BI connector, adding a multitude of new data endpoints powered by our new developer API. Let's dive into what this means for you from a data perspective.

What is the Power BI connector?

Our Power BI connector is made up of a set of instructions that enables the 6clicks platform to connect to Microsoft Power BI, a data visualization platform where you can export, integrate, and manage data from 6clicks. Users can install the Power BI connector and access data sources in their respective 6clicks AU, UK, or US instances. After establishing a connection to a data source, you can then explore the various datasets that are available.

What are the features of the new Power BI connector?

The latest enhancements to our Power BI connector introduce new features that provide our users with more comprehensive access to their data, enabling them to create more detailed and insightful reports. These include:

  • New data endpoints: Aside from the extensive datasets covering assessments, third parties, risks, controls, and other existing reports from 6clicks, we have added new data endpoints that leverage our Developer API to provide users with expanded access and compatibility. These data endpoints are linked by IDs, allowing you to build relationships between them and generate data as you see fit.
  • More data fields: Using additional data fields that are now available within each dataset, you can enhance monitoring of risk tags, treatment status, risk rating, and other critical KPIs and easily slice and dice information to get the insights you need. We have also introduced universal keys in the form of UUIDs which assist with tenancy portability and other 6clicks administrative functions.
  • Standardized login process: Authentication via Power BI is now handled more smoothly and securely via the same login process and security protocols configured on your 6clicks app instance, such as SSO (single sign-on) and two-factor authentication.

Here’s a short video demonstrating these new features:

With these improvements, we aim to empower our users with the capability to connect to Power BI more effectively and unlock deeper insights to elevate enterprise reporting. We are continually adding more data into Power BI to enable our users to integrate their 6clicks data into their reports.
