Augment control management and reporting with 6clicks’ control set custom fields

One of the most important aspects of maintaining security compliance is implementing, managing, and measuring the effectiveness of security controls. 6clicks’ Security Compliance solution ensures your organization’s adherence to regulatory standards, security frameworks, and internal policies through effective control management in the 6clicks platform.

We recently introduced control set custom fields to enable users to enhance the data of their controls and improve control reporting. Learn how this new upgrade to the 6clicks Controls module can equip organizations with more robust capabilities to effectively manage controls, address risks, and achieve security compliance.

What is in 6clicks’ Controls module?

The Controls module is where you can store, organize, action, track, and report on the performance of your organization’s controls.

Upon landing on the Controls page, you can create and see a list of all your control sets recorded in the 6clicks platform. Under each control set, you can manually add or import your controls and link each control to external requirements in an authority (standard, framework, or regulation) as part of your compliance obligations or to risks as part of risk treatment plans.

The Controls module is also where you can start actioning controls by assigning responsibilities to other team members, which can be one-time or recurring tasks that can then be managed in the Tasks module.

Finally, users can refer to the Activity Log and History tabs to monitor user activity and updates to a control set. You can also track versions and mappings of control sets to external requirements and generate reports on control effectiveness using the Reporting & Analytics functionality.

What are control set custom fields?

Introducing control set custom fields, which allow users to further classify control sets for management and reporting purposes.

Depending on their user and role permissions, users can now manage control set fields within the Controls module. This entails the ability to create your own custom control set fields and modify existing or standard control set fields.

When creating a new control set field, users can define the following: 

• Name
• Description
• Field Type – Whether the field will be displayed in a drop-down or long text format
• Control Set Type – Whether the field will apply to a control set, an obligation set, or another custom control or policy category
• Answers – The drop-down options that will be available to select from when updating the field

This also means that Hub users can set up and manage control sets and their fields at the Hub and push them to their Spokes, the same way content such as assessment templates are defined at the Hub and pushed to Spokes. Now, when users go to a control set and open a specific control, they will be able to see the custom control set fields on the side panel, set the values for these fields to categorize the control, and directly apply and save the changes.

Users can now also have their own customized view of controls using control set custom fields. For example, upon selecting the Effectiveness field under Columns, an additional column showing the effectiveness rating for each control will be added to the controls table. The filter functionality can also be used to sort controls by custom fields.

Additionally, 6clicks’ Reporting & Analytics feature now enables users to segregate control data based on custom control set fields, allowing you to create more targeted and insightful reports.

With control set custom fields, compliance managers and other users of the 6clicks platform can take advantage of enhanced configurability and customization in building and managing control sets and leverage comprehensive information and insights on controls to drive more informed decisions.

Other updates to the 6clicks platform

Along with the new control set custom fields feature, several updates across the 6clicks platform have also been added to enhance user experience and functionality. These include:

• Bulk updates – Users can now edit multiple controls within a control set at once. From the controls table, users can select the controls they want to update, click ‘Edit’ and choose a control set field from the side panel, then apply the same changes to all the selected controls in one action, rather than having to update each control individually.
• More detailed control view – With control set custom fields, users will now have access to more information for controls linked to risks, requirement-based assessments, and responsibility tasks assigned to them, improving the Tasks, Risks, and Audits & Assessments modules.
